Sit on Some Inspiration: Street Artists Bomb Eames Chairs for Charity
Barney’s New York always has the most fantastic (and sometimes scandalous) window displays. Yesterday, they set the blogosphere aflutter after installing an array of iconic Eames molded plywood lounge chairs that had been “bombed” by some of New York’s finest graffiti and street artists. In addition to being an eye-catching excuse to window-shop, EAMES INSPIRATION is also a charity auction benefiting Operation Design’s New York Educational + Design initiative.
Curated by Billi Kid and Luna Park, EAMES INSPIRATION features work by: Aakash Nihalani, Billi Kid, Blanco, Cake, Celso, Cern, Damon Ginandes, Darkcloud, David Cooper, Elbow-Toe, James and Karla Murray, Joe Iurato, Matt Siren, NohJColey, Peru Ana Ana Peru, Skewville, Sofia Maldonado, Stikman, UR®New York and Veng.
Bidding began yesterday at $1000 per chair here. You can visit the chairs at Barneys on Madison Avenue at 61st Street now through June 1st. Check out more views of the chairs via Billi Kid here and a short interview with Kid and Blanco here. Or, thanks to our anonymous insider, you can view the chairs from the comfort of your own chair by kicking back and clicking through.
